Moreover, Evans wanted to succeed in bringing back the classic songs of the country genre, which were re-created by legendary stars such as Patsy Cline, Hank Snow, Tammy Wynette, George Jones, and Patty Loveless, musicians Evans believed to be her biggest influences. The late 1990s were in a time where most promising country artists turned their attention to more contemporary songs with a pop-radio appeal, Evans established herself with her country music with a nostalgic look as demonstrated by her debut album in 1997 titled True Lies. True Lies, though it got a positive review and was nominated by the Academy of Country Music for 1998's top new female artist it failed to have an impact. Thus, for her follow-up release No Place That Far in 1999, No Place That Far, Evans accepted a plea from producers who persuaded the artist to freshen up her music and finally earned the popular appreciation she'd always wanted from the time she was a child.
